About the Sip & Stroll Art Walk

The Sip & Stroll Art Walk began as a celebration of creativity, independence, and opportunity through the STEP (Supportive Transition & Employment Placement) Program at Jacksonville School for Autism (JSA). What started as a way to showcase student artwork has grown into a meaningful community event that highlights the incredible talents and vocational skills of our students and young adults.

How It All Started

The STEP Program was created to equip students and young adults with the essential skills needed for meaningful employment, independent daily living, and active participation in their communities. Through individualized instruction, hands-on vocational training, and strategic community partnerships, STEP builds pathways to adulthood for individuals who often face significant barriers to employment and independence.

As part of this vision, JSA developed SpectrumWORX Enterprises, our on-campus micro-enterprise program. Because many students face behavioral and communication challenges that can make traditional job placements difficult, these structured enterprises provide supportive vocational training environments designed specifically for their needs. With routine, consistency, and individualized instruction at the forefront, students are able to grow in confidence and capability.

Our art micro-enterprise, in particular, is not only a means of generating income to support our programs—it is also a powerful therapeutic outlet for our students with autism. Through creative expression, students build fine motor skills, practice focus and task completion, regulate emotions, and gain confidence in their abilities. The process of creating is just as important as the finished product.

Through these enterprises, students develop critical transferable skills including communication, teamwork, time management, task completion, workplace behavior, and responsibility. These experiences are vocational, therapeutic, confidence-building, and truly life-changing.

Expanding the Opportunity

We are proud that the Sip & Stroll Art Walk now includes participation from our lower school students as well, giving them early exposure to creativity, entrepreneurship, and community engagement. By introducing these experiences at a younger age, we help nurture independence and skill development from the very beginning.

The Sip & Stroll Art Walk is more than an event—it is a celebration of ability, growth, and possibility. Every purchase, every conversation, and every show of support helps empower our students as they take meaningful steps toward adulthood and independence.
